To Whom It May Concern:
As you may already know, every year the British Government’s Chevening Fellowship programme provides a number of opportunities to study in the UK for talented, mid-career professionals with leadership potential and at least 5 years experience in their chosen field. This year is no exception, [and we would like to invite you, as just such an individual, to consider whether you would be interested in applying to taking advantage of this opportunity/and we would like to invite you to consider whether you or anyone in your organisation would be a suitable candidate to take advantage of this opportunity]. Each Fellowship entails 3-months study in a specialist field at an UK University or educational establishment, generally running from January until mid-April.
These Fellowships are based on themes related to the UK’s international priorities, such as supporting the transition to a low carbon economy and supporting reform of international institutions. The objective of the Fellowships is to offer a tool to contribute to better understanding of international issues, and to offer practical experience related to the chosen theme, and to promote international dialogue related to the theme during the course. There are several different courses available each year, but we think that for your field of expertise the most relevant one(s) would be:
Economics of Climate Change (Cambridge) 17 July
Economics of Energy (Birmingham) 17 July
Finance and Investment in a Low Carbon Economy (Edinburgh) 17 July
International Institutional Governance and Effectiveness (Bradford) 6 July
We recognise that there are many demands on your time, and so would ask that if you are unable to commit yourself to such a prolonged absence whether you could consider if any of your colleagues from within your organisation/field might be suitable candidates to apply for a Fellowship.
We have attached the outline programmes of these courses for more information. If you would like to apply, or if you know of someone in your organisation who would make a suitable candidate, we would be grateful if you could complete the attached application form, and send it to chevening.mexico@fco.gov.uk by the date mentioned next to the course. Regretfully, we will be unable to consider any applications received after this date.
The Fellowships cover tuition fees, accommodation, a small living allowances, visas costs and economy class flights to the UK.
Ideally, Fellows will have the full support of their institution or organisation to undertake the three month fellowship, and will return to their place of work to put some of this new knowledge and experience into practice.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Robert Fitchett
